Suspected drug dealer arrested following pursuit

A Shreveport man under investigation for trafficking large amounts of marijuana and methamphetamine locally was arrested and taken into custody on Wednesday, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator and Natchitoches Sheriff Stuart Wright.

Robert Tyrone Adams, 44, of the 500 block of East 74th Street and also of Dallas, Texas, was booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center where he is being held for the DEA.

Agents with the DEA Task Force, made up by several local law enforcement agencies, had been investigating Adams for drug distribution in Shreveport and the surrounding area. On Wednesday, Adams was spotted in the area and left Caddo Parish driving southbound on I-49. As he entered Natchitoches Parish, NPSO deputies were notified. They attempted to stop Adams’ Mercedes after observing him commit a traffic violation.  Adams refused to stop and fled at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour. Using spike strips to disable his vehicle, NPSO deputies took Adams into custody without incident.

Adams had approximately $5,000 in his possession at the time of his arrest. Two bags with suspected methamphetamine (approximately 1,000 grams) and two bags of suspected marijuana (approximately 400 grams) were located by NPSO deputies on the side of the roadway along the route of the pursuit. The total value of the drugs seized is $104,000.

Adams was arrested on federal charges of possession with intent to distribute over 500 grams of methamphetamine. He also faces several traffic charges in Natchitoches Parish.

Assisting with the investigation and arrest were the DEA Task Force; Caddo, Bossier, Desoto, and Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Offices, and the Louisiana State Police.
