CPSO to conduct Labor Day holiday enforcement targeting impaired drivers

Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prator announced plans to participate in the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign this Labor Day holiday. By increasing enforcement efforts and raising public awareness, the Sheriff’s Office hopes to reduce the number of crashes and fatalities due to impaired driving.

Extra deputies will be assigned to conduct patrols targeting impaired drivers between August 20 and September 6. The campaign is coordinated and funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.

On average, one person was killed in a drunk-driving crash every 52 minutes in 2019 and more than 10,000 people were killed each year from 2015 to 2019. This is why the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office is working together with NHTSA to remind drivers that drunk driving is not only illegal, it is a matter of life and death.

Sheriff Prator is reminding citizens, If You Feel Different, You Drive Different. “Keeping people safe is our first priority, so we’re asking everyone to plan ahead if you know you’ll be out drinking,” he said.
