The Caddo Sheriff’s Office and Louisiana Livestock Brand Commission are investigating the deaths of six cows found today in a pasture at Ellerbe and Robson roads, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator.

A local veterinarian said the dead cattle were dehydrated. Deputies said there was no water on the property and a well that supplies water was without electricity. It appears the cows could have been without water since June 16. On that date, Valley Electric cutpower to the well after it was determined that someone had illegally connected electricity at the site.

Power was restored today and Fire District #5 brought thousands of gallons of water to fill temporary tubs for the 57 remaining cows in the pasture. The dead cows were reported to the Sheriff’s Office around 8 a.m. today by a caller who saw the animals from an adjacent pasture. They reported several dead and some “that didn’t look good.”

The case remains under investigation.
