Caddo Sheriff to conduct sobriety checkpoint

Caddo Parish Sheriff’s deputies will conduct a sobriety checkpoint in south Caddo Parish Saturday night, July 11.

The checkpoint is funded by a grant from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission. The focus of the grant is to reduce deaths and injuries from alcohol-related traffic crashes.

Sheriff Steve Prator said patrol deputies working regular duty and overtime initiatives such as this one funded by the LHSC are paying close attention to those who ignore laws that promote traffic safety. South sector deputies working regular patrol duty arrested 22 people for DWI in June.

“Drunk drivers don’t just put themselves in jeopardy. They put innocent people at risk,” Prator said. “If someone can’t make the personal choice not to drink and drive, then we’ll make it for them. If they are over the limit, they’ll be under arrest.”

Prator advises everyone to designate a sober driver every time they consume alcohol. Buckle up, every one, every trip. Report unsafe drivers to your local law enforcement agency.
