Caddo deputy selected for national Officer of the Year Award

A Caddo Parish deputy known for developing and presenting crime prevention programs for all ages has been selected for national recognition by the Forty & Eight.

Cpl. Lifford Jackson will be honored as the national Forty & Eight Law Officer of the Year at the organization’s 90th Promenade Nationale in Rochester, N.Y., this September. Jackson was chosen from nominees submitted by Forty & Eight organizations from across the country and internationally.

Before receiving the national award, Jackson will first receive the Louisiana Law Officer of the Year award during the association’s Grande Promenade du Louisiana this Sunday, July 12, in Alexandria. The ceremony will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the Best Western Inn & Suites Conference Center on North MacArthur Drive. He was unanimously selected by the state awards committee after receiving the Law Officer of the Year Award for the Voiture Locale 137 in Shreveport in March.

Jackson has been a deputy with the Caddo Sheriff's Office since 1992. He is assigned to Community Programs where he has conducted hundreds of programs for youth and older adults and created a number of new programs designed to keep citizens of all ages safe and crime free.

He is a volunteer with Think First, First Offenders, Volunteers of America, and Volunteers for Youth Justice. He has developed programs including Reality Check, Scared Straight, MAD (Making a Difference), and CHOICE (Choosing Healthy Options Instead of Criminal Engagement).

The Forty & Eight is an honor organization of male and female U. S. veterans who are committed to charitable and patriotic aims.
