Caddo detectives arrested three men who severely beat up a coworker in Shreveport on Thursday, said Sheriff Steve Prator.

Just before 8 a.m. on September 15, Caddo deputies were dispatched to a business in the 9100 block of Youree Drive to respond to a call about a battery.

Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office Detective Vincent Jackson said the incident was recorded by surveillance cameras.  Video evidence showed Darius Coleman, 33, hit the victim in the back of the head with a hammer multiple times. When the victim tried to defend himself Kerrick Jones, 21, and Ty Whitaker, 20,  joined the fight. They offenders punched and kicked the victim in the head and neck while he was on the ground. Darius, Kerrick, and Ty fled the scene in a grey Ford Focus before the deputies arrived.

Witnesses notified law enforcement and the victim was taken to the hospital by the Shreveport Fire Department.

The investigation led Caddo detectives to the Cambridge Court Apartments on Mansfield Road where they found the suspects in one of the apartment units.

It took several hours before the suspects opened the door and surrendered. Detectives executed a search warrant and found illegal drugs, a stolen gun and the hammer used in the battery.

The three men were arrested and booked into Caddo Correctional Center on Thursday night. Coleman was charged with aggravated second-degree battery while Whitaker and Jones were charged with second-degree battery. More charges are pending.
