Battery suspect arrested with marijuana

A Mooringsport man under investigation for battering a woman found himself in even more trouble when Caddo deputies discovered a large amount of marijuana in his possession.

Caddo Deputy Gary Pace was on a traffic stop on La. Hwy. One on Sunday when he heard a call dispatched on the radio about a battery that had occurred at Villa Oaks Apartments in Oil City. Pace saw the suspect vehicle traveling south on Hwy. One and motioned for the driver to stop.

Martz Demon Jackson, a passenger in the car, was identified as the suspect in the battery. Pace questioned Jackson and discovered he had a marijuana blunt in his pocket and another 63 grams of marijuana packaged in individual baggies concealed in his jacket.

Jackson, 19, of the 1000 block of Old Mooringsport Road, was booked into the Caddo Correctional Center for possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and simple battery.

The battery involved a woman who reportedly was choked and whose head was slammed against a wall. That call was handled by Oil City Police.
