Discovery of marijuana patch leads to arrest

A marijuana patch was discovered today tucked away in a wooded area of Keithville, and the man responsible for growing the plants is now behind bars, according to Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator and Shreveport Police Chief Henry Whitehorn.

Agents with the Caddo-Shreveport Narcotics Task Force arrested Richie Williams, 34, of 2001 Grimmett Drive, for growing the marijuana, which he said was for his personal use.

Williams was booked into Caddo Correctional Center for cultivation of marijuana.

A man on a tractor alerted the Caddo Sheriff’s Office after he discovered 18 mature plants in the woods near the 3200 block of Hummingbird in Keithville. Authorities followed a trail from the patch to a nearby house, which belonged to a family friend of Williams’.After a brief investigation, agents identified Williams as their suspect and arrested him at a Shreveport business.

Authorities said the plants were approximately three feet tall and were nearing time to be harvested.
