Deputies with the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office have shut down traffic on Hwy 170 in North Caddo Parish due to fallen powerlines.

Just before midnight a sheriff's deputy spotted a SWEPCO pole with powerlines still attached had fallen onto Hwy 170 just east of Herndon Road in Gilliam. The highway has been closed from Herndon Road to I-49 since 1:45 a.m. while crews were busy making repairs to the downed powerlines.

Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator is urging residents to stay clear of the area while repairs are being made. Sheriff’s deputies are on the scene directing traffic.  

SWEPCO is estimating that repairs will continue until after daybreak.  High winds are believed to have caused the pole to fall.
