Latest updates from Caddo leaders on storm response (6-23-23)

State, parish, and city leaders met today to discuss the progress of ongoing restoration efforts in Caddo Parish following the storm that occurred in our area on June 15 and 16.

During the meeting, the following information was announced:

SWEPCO reports 6,050 outages in the Shreveport District, including 4,896 outages in Caddo Parish. SWEPCO says 95 percent of the power outages have been restored. Larger outages are concentrated in areas around:

  • Querbes Golf Course
  • Long Lake
  • Broadmoor (between Youree and East Kings)
  • Pines Road to Cross Lake

Current boil advisories in Caddo Parish:

  • Evergreen Estates Water System – population 162
  • Keithville School Water System

Ceared boil advisories:

  • Blanchard Water System – population 15,180
  • Simpson Water System – population 48
  • Colworth Place Water System – population 123
  • Oil City Water System – population 2,163
  • Big Oaks Water System – population 120
  • Barron Ridge Water System – population 148
  • Lakeview Water System -population 2,025
  • Deepwoods Water System – population 657
  • Bella Vista Water System – population 330
  • Linda Lane Water System – population 135
  • Pinehill Waterworks District – population 4,818

The following cooling centers are open to assist citizens needing a place to cool off.

  • Morning Star Baptist Church Life Center, 5340 Jewella Avenue, Shreveport
  • The Highland Center, 520 Olive Street, Shreveport, 9 am - 4 pm
  • Galilee Family Life Center, 1500 Pierre Avenue, Shreveport (8 am-8 pm)

The following city recreational facilities are open and operating as normal from 8 am-6:30 pm:

  • Valencia Park Community Center, 1800 Viking Drive
  • Southern Hills Park Community Center, 1002 Bert Kouns Loop 
  • Bill Cockrell Park Community Center, 4109 Pines Road
  • Airport Park Community Center
  • Lakeside Community Center
  • Princess Park Community Center
  • Hattie Perry Community Center

The services provided by the American Red Cross shelter will be extended until Sunday: however, those who require a hot meal should note that the last meal will be served during lunchtime.  

The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office urges anyone who received damage to their primary residence or business from the storm to report it to the Sheriff’s Homeland Security Division at 675-2255. There is also a state website where citizens can report damage to their homes at Damage.LA.GOV.

SNAP recipients currently receiving benefits will see those benefits automatically reload to their accounts. Citizens with questions will need to contact the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) at 1-888-LAHELP-U (1-888-524-3578)

Officials urge the public to stay safe after the storm by avoiding downed power wires on roadways and around fallen trees. Use generators in open areas and not inside to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. Be mindful of all posted traffic barricades and keep off roadways unless necessary.
