Arrests made in two counterfeiting rings

Caddo Sheriff’s detectives made three arrests in connection with separate counterfeiting rings operating in the area, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator.

Bryan Park, 51, was living at a homeless shelter in Fort Worth, where he was recruited to cash counterfeit checks in east Texas, Bossier City, and Shreveport. Park was arrested on October 8 at a bank on Mansfield Road in Shreveport after several alerts were issued to area banks. Park was arrested for forgery and booked into the city jail. He was later transferred to Caddo Correctional Center.

Investigators believe as many nine people may be participating in this ring by cashing counterfeit checks at area banks. Approximately $30,000 has been stolen so far, said arresting detective Bobby Herring, of the Caddo Sheriff’s Office.

A second ring operating in the area is targeting banks, liquor stores, and check cashing businesses.

On October 7, Tramika Scoby, 26, of the 3000 block of Drexel, was arrested after she cashed and deposited several counterfeit checks at area banks. Scoby was arrested for forgery and booked into Caddo Correctional Center.

Arada Armstrong, 31, of the 1700 block of Murray Lane, was recruited to cash counterfeit checks at several liquor stores in Shreveport and Bossier City. Armstrong was also arrested for forgery and booked into CCC on October 9.

Both women said they cashed counterfeit checks in exchange for a percentage of the money received.

The investigations are ongoing.
