Forgery suspect benefits from funds intended for Katrina victims

An employee of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Shreveport was arrested for using grant funds intended for Katrina victims for her own personal gain.

Angela Rice, 47, of the 1000 block of Quail Creek, was arrested on a forgery charge by Caddo Sheriff's Cpl. Alan Davidson of the Caddo-Shreveport Financial Crimes Task Force.

The Society helps Katrina victims with ongoing needs, such as obtaining furnishings for their homes. While employed with the Society, Rice used the names and personal information of five victims who had applied for assistance and obtained furniture for herself that was paid for with federal money. Rice used the forged documents to buy a couch, washer, dryer, table and chairs, bed and mattress totaling $2,800.

She was reported by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, which discovered the discrepancies.
