The award is presented to recognize a Caddo Sheriff’s deputy who takes quick and decisive action while exposing him or herself to personal danger above and beyond the normal demands of law enforcement.

The deputies are being recognized for their response to a vehicle crash that occurred October 29 on Hwy. 1. The deputies battled pouring rain, storm warnings, and a vehicle fire to rescue motorist Douglas Green from his truck, which crashed during the storm.

Deputy Matt Purgerson will receive the department's Lifesaving Award, which is presented when a deputy saves or prolongs a person’s life during a situation that is not life threatening to the deputy.

On October 31, Deputy Purgerson assisted a citizen who lost consciousness and drove his truck into a ditch. Deputy Purgerson witnessed the incident and immediately began CPR on the scene until Fire District 1 arrived to take over.
