Two die in early morning accident

Two people have died in an early morning traffic fatality that occurred this morning on LA Hwy. 71 near Belcher.

Around 7 a.m. a Chevrolet Suburban headed northbound attempted to pass an 18-wheeler. The driver of the Suburban struck an oncoming Kia Optima head on.

The passenger in the Kia, 30-year-old Lakecia Black, of Rodessa, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Her mother, 51-year-old Sharon Black, also of Rodessa, was airlifted to LSUHSC, and died later.

All three occupants of the Suburban were taken by ambulance to LSUHSC. They are driver Darrick Johnson, 38, and Kenneth Everfield, 37, both of Tallulah, and Earl Page, 42, whose address was not immediately available.

Deputies are investigating whether foggy conditions may have played a part in the accident.
