Caddo Parish Sheriff launches new notification service for citizens

The Caddo Sheriff's Office is launching a new service designed to deliver important and timely community information to residents using the latest technology.

The service, created by Nixle, delivers trustworthy and important neighborhood-level public safety notifications in real time from the Sheriff's Office. Subscribers choose how they want to receive the information: by text message, e-mail, or over the web. There is no cost for the service; however, standard text messaging rates apply. If subscribers have a plan with unlimited text, it won't cost a penny.

Subscribers choose only the information they want to receive for the specific geographic locations of interest to them. Messages include everything from urgent public safety alerts and traffic information to less time-sensitive advisories and community information.

Residents of Caddo Parish can take advantage of Nixle by registering at www.caddosheriff.org or www.nixle.com.

Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator said the difference between Nixle and other social networking sites is security. Only deputies who are authorized by Nixle can post messages on the network, which ensures subscribers are getting their information from a reliable source.

"When it comes to public safety information, you have to trust the source," the Sheriff said. "Residents of Caddo Parish can rest easy that the local messages they receive are authentic.”
Prator said he encourages everyone to subscribe to the service. "Whether you're on the road, at work, or at home, this service assures that you will get the information that matters most to your family as soon as it is available from the Sheriff's Office."
