Former church employee arrested for burglary

A former church maintenance worker was arrested for breaking into church property and taking items, some of which he later sold on ebay, said Sheriff Steve Prator.

John Freeman, 25, of the 9100 block of Walker Road, was arrested and booked into Caddo Correctional Center on one count of burglary of a religious facility and two counts of simple burglary. Bond is set at $50,000.

Freeman used a master key that he obtained while working in the maintenance department at Summer Grove Baptist Church to enter the facility after business hours.Once inside the building, he also entered and took items from Bistro to Go and Magnolia Catering, an eatery and a catering company located on the property.

Caddo Sheriff's Detective Alan Davidson obtained a warrant for Freeman's arrest and located him on Tuesday in a vehicle on Pines Road. Freeman was taken into custody and transported to the Caddo-Shreveport Financial Crimes Task Force office for questioning by Davidson and Sheriff's Detective Bobby Herring.

Following the interview, Davidson and Herring conducted a search of a nearby residence and recovered most of the stolen items, includingcomputers, guitars, sound equipment, kitchen appliances, a Nikon camera, and a flat panel TV. The home belonged to an acquaintance of Freeman's. About 40 stolen items, including a number of Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace money management kits, were sold on ebay for about $70 - $80 each.
