Man barricades himself in house; threatens to blow himself up

Caddo Sheriff's deputies responded this morning to a call from a Blanchard man who threatened to blow himself up, said Sheriff Steve Prator.

The 45-year-old man called the Sheriff's Office around 3 a.m. and said he had a bomb. He threatened himself and his wife.

The Caddo Sheriff's Hostage Negotiations Team and Special Response Team responded to the man's house in the 4800 block of Larry Lane. They established telephone communication with the man and spoke with him over a three-hour period. Negotiators also made contact with the man's family and determined that he was in the house alone.

During the phone conversations, the man indicated that he had taken a large amount of medication. Deputies said it was clear from the conversations that his physical condition was deteriorating, so around 7 a.m., SRT deputies entered the house and took him into custody.

The man was taken to LSU Health Sciences Center for evaluation.

No weapons or explosives were found in the residence.
