Man arrested for theft of oil products

A man who used his lunch break to peddle property that he stole from his employer was arrested by Caddo sheriff's detectives.

John Joseph Pouncy, 32, of the 4800 block of Westwood Park in Shreveport, was booked into Caddo Correctional Center for theft and illegal possession of stolen goods.

Detectives did surveillance of a used car lot after receiving a tip that Pouncy was randomly contacting businesses and selling products like motor oil and transmission fluid that were manufactured by his employer, Omni Specialty Packaging.

On Tuesday, Pouncy showed up at the car lot with six cases of a new synthetic oil that was just distributed last week and one case of chainsaw oil. The products were valued at about $500. He was immediately arrested by Caddo sheriff's detectives who were waiting nearby.

The case remains under investigation by Detective Andy Scoggins. Omni officials say as much as $10,000 in company product appears to be missing.
