Caddo Sheriff offers summer programs for kids

Summer Recreation Program

The annual youth summer recreation program sponsored by the Caddo Sheriff's Office kicks off Monday, June 7, providing safe, summer activities for city youth, said Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prator.

Children and teens ages 10 to 18 can participate in basketball and table games like checkers, cards and dominoes from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays. The activities will take place at Caddo Middle Career & Technology, 6310 Clift Street; M.J. Moore Math/Science Middle School, 6660 Quilen Road; and Fair Park High School, 3222 Greenwood Road. Each location is supervised by instructors provided by the Caddo School Board.

Pre-registration is not required, and there is no fee; however, participants are required to sign in. The program will continue through July 22.

For more information on the summer youth program, call the sheriff's Community Programs Section at 681-0875.
Sheriff's Safety Town Mini Camps

Sheriff's Safety Town will offer one-day mini-camps to area children interested in learning more about safety this summer. The camps will be held between June 1 and July 29 at Safety Town, located at 8910 Jewella Avenue.
Sheriff’s deputies will teach the basics of personal safety, bicycle and motor vehicle safety, fire safety, internet safety, animal safety, gun safety and stranger danger. Old children will also learn about crime scene investigations.
Instruction for incoming third and fourth graders will be on Tuesdays; fifth and sixth graders on Wednesdays; and seventh and eighth graders on Thursdays. Times are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Children must bring their own lunch and dress for outside weather, including wearing closed-toe shoes.

On Mondays, shortened sessions will be held for students entering first and second grade. Younger participants may choose to attend from either 9-11 a.m. or 12-2 p.m.

There is no charge for the camp but pre-registration is required. Call 698-7233 for more information.
