Caddo Sheriff's Office arrests Shreveport man for murder - UPDATE

A Shreveport man was booked into the Caddo Correctional Center this morning in connection with a weekend homicide, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator.

Erick Crain, 26, of 3315 W. 70th Street, was arrested for the first-degree murder of 73-year-old Ernest Luttrell, who was shot multiple times at his home Sunday morning at 12292 Greenwood-Springridge Road in Keithville.
Sheriff's detectives believe robbery was the motive in the shooting. Crain's 2005 Chevy truck and five firearms were taken from the house.

Acting on a tip, sheriff's investigators obtained a search warrant for Crain's trailer earlier this morning. Crain was detained for questioning during the search and was subsequently arrested at the Sheriff's Criminal Investigations office.

The arrest was the result of witness statements and evidence collected at the crime scene and other locations, including shoe impressions found inside Luttrell's house. Witnesses reported seeing Crain and the stolen weapons inside Luttrell's truck on Sunday afternoon.

Caddo Sheriff's Sgt. Greg Ardoin and Cpl. Victor Bordelon located the stolen truck this morning while patroling a short distance from Crain's trailer. The truck had been abandoned near a gas well site in the 3100 block of Meriwether Road.

The investigation is continuing.
