A Shreveport lawyer who was disbarred in October 2009 was arrested on Tuesday for still practicing law.
Ronnie K. Banks Sr. was hired in December 2009 by a 70-year-old woman to negotiate her mineral rights with a local development company. During their meetings, Banks told the woman that he was an attorney and displayed a large sign stating that he was an Attorney-at-Law. The woman paid Banks $500 for services she never received.
In a separate case, Banks is accused of cashing a $976 check that he reported as lost. That check was voided and reissued by a local company. Banks cashed the new check the same day it was received. Several weeks later, he also cashed the original check that he had reported lost.
Caddo Sheriff's Detectives Yomeka Evans and Bobby Herring, of the Caddo-Shreveport Financial Crimes Task Force, obtained two warrants for Banks' arrest for the unlawful practice of law and felony theft.
Banks was arrested at his office at 4718 Hearne Ave. on Tuesday afternoon and booked into Caddo Correctional Center. Banks is a candidate for Caddo Parish School Board.
