CSO seeks participants in next Citizens Academy

The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office is currently taking applications for the next session of the Caddo Sheriff’s Citizens' Academy.  The academy offers insight into how the Sheriff’s Office performs its duties and serves the community.

Participants will meet each Tuesday from 6-9 p.m. beginning September 21 through November 2. A class on firearms instruction and familiarization will be held on Saturday, October 30.

Classes will take place at various locations throughout the Sheriff's Office depending on the topics presented.Citizens will have the opportunity to tour Sheriff’s Safety Town, the Caddo Correctional Center, 911 Communications Center, and Caddo Sheriff's Regional Training Academy shooting range.

Participants will take part in weapons training, ride-alongs with patrol deputies, view demonstrations by the K-9 and SRT units, and learn about the court system and processing a crime scene.

Applications for the academy are available on-line at www.caddosheriff.org or by calling 681-0870. Applications must be returned by September 17. Felons and people with arrest warrants are prohibited from attending. Applicants must be at least 18 years old. The course is limited to 50 people.

Graduates of the Citizens' Academy are encouraged to join the Caddo Sheriff’s Auxiliary Unit, a voluntary citizens' force that helps with traffic, event control, and various law enforcement duties.
