A former employee at the Caddo Juvenile Detention Center was arrested by sheriff's deputies for battering an inmate, said Sheriff Steve Prator.

Dale Smith, 56, of the 1000 block of Dalzell, was issued a summons for simple battery following an investigation by Sheriff's Detective Jackie Winston and a review by the Caddo District Attorney's Office.

Smith is accused of knocking a 17-year-old inmate to the ground and choking him following a verbal altercation between the two. The incident occurred in May.
