Man makes up story of stabbing

A Belcher man cut himself on the arms then made up a story that he was stabbed, Caddo Sheriff's investigators say.

Stephen Sumner Jr., 17, was arrested for criminal mischief after Sheriff's Detective Donnie Laney determined that he'd made up the story of the attack and falsely filed a complaint with the Sheriff's Office.

Sumner originally told deputies that he was attacked by a man with a knife while walking in Belcher on March 16. Sumner later admitted that he used his own pocket knife to cause his injuries then disposed of it in some bushes along the roadway.

Sumner is the second man to be arrested for criminal mischief related to filing a false report in recent days. On Sunday, Caddo detectives arrested Kasey Knight of Hosston after he falsely claimed that he interrupted a burglary in progress at his home and was shot at by one of the suspects. Detectives said Knight fabricated the story to cover up that he had stolen $1,900 from his roommate.
