Prator reappointed to top law nforcement posts

Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator has been reappointed by Gov. Bobby Jindal to a second term on the Peace Officer Standards & Training (POST) Council and the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement.

Both high-level state appointments impact Louisiana?s criminal justice system and the training of its law enforcement officers. Prator was first appointed to the posts by Gov. Kathleen Blanco in 2004.

The POST Council is responsible for developing the mandatory basic training curriculum for municipal officers, deputy sheriffs, state police and wildlife agents. The Council also is responsible for accrediting law enforcement training centers, establishing minimum instructor qualifications, certifying those instructors, and establishing firearms training standards for state, parish and municipal law officers.

The LCLE is responsible for improving the state?s criminal justice system by issuing state and federal grants, providing training and education, conducting research, promoting multi-agency programs, and providing assistance to crime victims.
