Caddo Sheriff plans Reserve Academy

The Caddo Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for a Reserve Peace Officer’s Academy for persons who would like to serve as a reserve deputy or police officer.

Reserves are volunteers who complete the same state-mandated training as full-time sheriff’s deputies or police officers, which allows them to carry a weapon and make arrests. They are used to supplement full-time law enforcement officers and are subject to the same rules and regulations as full-time employees of the Caddo Sheriff’s Office or other agencies.

The Academy will be held from 6-10 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday nights and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays, March 29 through Oct 4. Classes will take place at the Caddo Sheriff’s Regional Training Academy, located at 15639 Highway One South.

The Academy is open to anyone who would like to serve as a reserve for the Caddo Sheriff's Office or any other area law enforcement agency. Applicants not applying for the Caddo Sheriff's Office must be sponsored by a law enforcement agency.

Caddo Sheriff's reserve deputies must be at least 21 years of age and have no criminal record. They must successfully pass this 400-hour Police Officer Standards and Training course, participate in field training, and volunteer at least 10 hours of service each month.

For additional information, contact the Caddo Sheriff's Academy at 681-0735; Reserve Capt. Todd Gates at 681-0585; or Personnel at 681-0812.
