Caddo sheriff's detectives arrested a Rodessa woman for cruelty to a juvenile after the 5-year-old victim showed up for school with two black eyes and a busted lip.
Jessica Poindexter, 27, was booked into the Caddo Correctional Center following an investigation by sheriff's Det. Robert Greer and the state Office of Community Services.
The investigation determined that Poindexter was involved in a physical altercation with an adult male at their residence on Rodessa State Line Road when the child entered the room and tried to intervene. Poindexter pushed the child out of the room and struck her in the face causing her to fall against the sharp edge of the door. As a result, she suffered injuries including a busted lip and two black eyes. Detectives said Poindexter also admitted hitting the child in the face with her hands on past occasions.
The child was removed from the home and placed in state custody.
