Caddo Sheriff’s Office to collect old cell phones

The Caddo Sheriff's Office is partnering with the 911 Cell Phone Bank program to collect discarded cell phones that can be reprogrammed for use in emergencies.

Citizens can drop off used phones, batteries, and chargers March 7-11 in the lobby of Government Plaza at 505 Travis Street in Shreveport.

Donated phones are programmed to call 911 and are re-issued to people in need, like senior citizens or victims of domestic violence.

“The phones are strictly for use in an emergency situation and have no other personal service attached," said Sheriff Steve Prator.

“This is a great opportunity for all of us to give a gift which directly benefits our community. By donating your used cell phone, you are providing people in need with a link to police and fire service in an emergency, which can be the difference between life and death,” Prator said.
