Homeowner catches burglars in the act

Four burglary suspects were arrested by Caddo sheriff's deputies on Wednesday after they were confronted at gunpoint by a suspicious homeowner, said Sheriff Steve Prator.

The homeowner, who lives in the 8300 block of Shirley Francis Road, told deputies he was awakened by a knock on his carport door around 9:30 a.m. He said two men whom he didn't know were under the carport and one was putting on gloves. The homeowner armed himself with a shotgun and confronted the two. One of the men immediately began asking about purchasing a vehicle that was not for sale and the other began walking away. The homeowner then noticed another unfamiliar man on his brother-in-law's porch next door. All three men then got into a car driven by a fourth suspect and fled the scene.

The homeowner called 911 with a description of the car and its occupants. Minutes later, Caddo Sheriff's Deputy Kevin Calhoun and other patrol deputies located the car on Buncombe Road and conducted a traffic stop. The vehicle was still occupied by the four suspects. Stolen property taken during a March 15 burglary in the 7200 block of Brownstone Drive in Greenwood was also located in the car.

Arrested were: Timothy Ryan Melton, 20, of the 2900 block of Despot in Shreveport;Jagger Travon Crowder, 17, of the 2900 block of Quinton in Shreveport; Shaborrea L. Murray, 17, of the 3200 block of Fulton in Shreveport; and Joshua Roy Jackson, 19, of the 10000 block of Neptune in Greenwood.

All four were booked into the Caddo Correctional Center for simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling and attempted simple burglary.
