Event to honor Justin Bloxom at Sheriff's Safety Town

Town Square Media and Sheriff's Safety Town will host the Justin Bloxom: We Care About Our Kids Dayfrom 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday at Safety Town, 8910 Jewella Avenue.

The event will include a bike rodeo, child fingerprinting, child passenger safety seat checks (from 9 a.m. to noon), the Shots for Tots bus, tours of Safety Town, information on water safety, and participation in simulated weather events in the Fire and Weather Safety House. All events are free. Children are encouraged to bring their own bicycle to bike rodeo.

Most importantly, Caddo deputies will be on hand to address parents throughout the day on stranger danger, internet safety, and sexting.

Justin Bloxom, 12, of Stonewall, was killed in March 2010. A cab driver was later charged with his death. Authorities said Brian Horn lured Justin away from a friend's house by posing as a girl and using cell phone text messages to set up a meeting between the two.

The event is being held in memory of Justin to raise awareness among parents and prevent other children from being harmed or placed in dangerous situations.
