Pharmacist arrested for illegally possessing drugs

Caddo sheriff's deputies arrested a pharmacist on drug charges after finding her in possession of a large assortment of prescription pills, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator.

A concerned citizen called the Caddo Sheriff's Office late Friday night to report a woman driving erratically on US Hwy. 71. Deputy Jeremy Bergren responded and located the Toyota Camry a short distance away on Hwy. 3049. Bergren witnessed the driver crossing the center line and driving into the opposing lane of traffic.

The vehicle was stopped, and its driver, Sharon Renee Provost, 46, of West Monroe, was questioned. Bergren obtained permission to search her vehicle and found a box on the front seat containing several sandwich bags filled with assorted prescription pills. Provost said she is a "floater" pharmacist who works at different pharmacies as needed. She said she took the pills without permission while working at a local pharmacy.

Provost was booked into the Caddo Correctional Center. During the booking process, deputies found another sandwich bag filled with pills hidden in her sock.

Over 23 different types of prescription pills were identified including Lortab, Soma, Estrace, and eparixin.

Provost was booked into jail for possession of schedule II drugs, possession of a Legend drug, bringing contraband into a penal facility, and DWI for driving under the influence of prescription drugs.
