A 2-year-old boy was hit by a dump truck at a south Caddo Parish truck stop this morning, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator.

The accident occurred at the S&A Truck Stop located at 12300 Mansfield Road just after 11 a.m. today. The boy, whose name has not been released, was with his mother and grandmother, who had parked their pickup in a space at the truck stop. The mother was holding the child's hand when he broke free and ran behind their pickup and into the path of an oncoming dump truck.

The child was transported to LSU Health Sciences Center by Fire District #6 with serious injuries. The accident is being investigated by the Caddo's Sheriff's Traffic Safety Unit.
