Caddo Sheriff to rally for victims' rights

The public is invited to attend the kick-off of National Crime Victims' Rights Week at a news conference hosted by the Caddo Sheriff's Office. The event will be held at 11:30 a.m., Monday, April 14, at River View Park on Clyde Fant Parkway.

Local law enforcement, crime victims, and victims' rights advocates will join Sheriff Steve Prator to mark the occasion, which will include a march to Government Plaza for a Victims' Information Fair. Participants are asked to wear the designated awareness colors supporting their cause: purple for domestic violence; red, MADD; white, sexual assault and victims of terrorism; blue, crime victims and child abuse; silver, elderly abuse; and teal, sexual violence.

Agencies will staff booths at Government Plaza, 501 Travis Street, from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. and distribute information on services and resources available to the community. Participating agencies are the Caddo Sheriff's Office Crime Victims' Reparations and Elderly Crime Victims' programs, Caddo District Attorney's Victim Assistance Program, Caddo Council on Aging, Shreveport-Caddo Crime Stoppers, Mothers Against Drunk Drivers, Caddo-Bossier Domestic Task Force and Juvenile Court, YWCA, Shreveport Police Weed and Seed, Legal Aid Services of North Louisiana, the Gingerbread House, the Center for Families, and Volunteers of Youth Justice (CASA).

Both the walk and information fair are free to the public.
