Caddo Sheriff issues warning about equipment thefts

The Caddo Sheriff's Office is working several instances of commercial equipment and ATV thefts and is warning the public to take extra precautions to secure their property.

Fourteen thefts of tractors, ATVs, and trailers in northern Caddo Parish have been reported to the Sheriff's Office since the end of April, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator. The stolen equipment includes six flatbed-type trailers (one with a welder), four farming / construction implements, and six ATVs. In some cases, multiple ATVs were stolen.

Most of the cases were received between June and the July 4th weekend. The majority occurred between La. Hwy. 169 north to La. Hwy. 2, along U.S. Hwy. 71. Often the items were taken over the weekend.

Sheriff Prator said it's not known if the thefts are related, but property owners should take extra precautions to secure their property and record important identifying data like serial numbers. ATVs and trailers should be locked inside a garage if possible.

Anyone with information about the thefts is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 673-7373 or the Caddo Sheriff's Office at 675-2170.
