Man arrested for attempted murder for striking by-stander with van

An innocent bystander to a dispute between two men was sent to the hospital Wednesday night after he was struck by a van driven by one of the men, said Sheriff Steve Prator.

The incident began around 9:30 p.m. in the 200 block of Blanchard Mobile Villa Road when the suspect, Joshua Yandell,, 38, entered the residence of 38-year-old Eartis Cannon without permission.Yandell kicked open several doors looking for Cannon while armed with a stun gun.

Cannon, who was at a neighbor's, ran outside and was met by Yandell, where the dispute continued. Yandell then jumped in his van and sped away, circling around the mobile home park. As he approached Cannon's residence again, he steered toward a man standing off the roadway and struck him with the van. The man, identified as a bystander, 46-year-old James Greer, scrambled to get out of the way of the vehicle, but Yandell accelerated again and hit a tree, knocking Greer partially under the van.

Yandell backed up the van and sped away. Caddo Sheriff's Deputy Chris Wray intercepted Yandell as he was leaving Blanchard Mobile Villa and took him into custody. Deputy Wray arrested Yandell for DWI, and Det. Michael Price arrested him for attempted second-degree murder and home invasion. Yandell was booked into the Caddo Correctional Center.

Greer was taken to LSU Health Sciences Center where he was treated and released.
