A Blanchard man arrested last week for sexually assaulting a mentally challenged woman now faces an additional charge of rape, said Sheriff Steve Prator.

Garland J. Simpson, 49, was arrested Oct. 26 for the oral sexual battery of a 10-year-old female in the 1990s and sexual battery of the infirm for assaulting a 26-year-old mentally challenged female in 2011.As the investigation continued, it was also learned that Simpson had sex with the 26-year-old victim in 2009, said Detective Donnie Laney. Simpson was subsequently arrested for simple rape.

Simpson remains in the Caddo Correctional Center. His total bond is now $225,000.
