Brothers face charges in series of burglaries, thefts

Caddo Sheriff's detectives say they plan to close a number of burglary and theft cases with the arrests of two brothers.

Merlin Wright, 34, and Steven Wright, 38, both of Greenwood, are facing charges in connection with offenses reported in north and south Caddo Parish since February. In several of the cases, victims reported power tools and lawn equipment stolen from their garages and storage sheds during the daytime.

Merlin Wright was arrested this week and booked into the Caddo Correctional Center for committing a simple burglary on Whispering Pines Drive in Shreveport. He's also charged with felony illegal possession of stolen things for possessing property from a burglary on Buncombe Road.

While collecting property pawned at local shops, detectives also discovered Merlin Wright pawned a .410 bolt action shotgun which he is forbidden to possess because of a prior felony conviction. Therefore, he was also charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

Steven Wright will be booked into CCC after his release from Shreveport City Jail, where he is being held on unrelated traffic charges. In the meantime, a warrant charging him with the burglary of a residence on LA Hwy. 1 remains on file with the Caddo Sheriff's Office.

Detectives say they also plan to charge Merlin Wright with a burglary that occurred on Shirley Francis Road in March. Steven remains under investigation for the same burglary.

The cases were investigated by Detectives Charles Bradford, Leonard Scoggins, Terry Richardson, and Jason Morgan.
