Narcotics agent shot during raid, five behind bars

A Shreveport Police officer assigned to the Caddo-Shreveport Narcotics Unit was shot in the chest last night while authorities executed a search warrant at a west Shreveport motel.

At approximately 9:40 p.m. on January 4, 2012 agents with the Caddo-Shreveport Narcotics Unit were serving a search warrant at a motel room at the Plantation Inn in the 4900 block of Greenwood Road. Police obtained the warrant after conducting an investigation into the criminal distribution of illegal narcotics at that location. As the agents, wearing tactical uniforms clearly identifying themselves as law enforcement and loudly yelling “police”, were entering the room, an occupant within fired a single shot, striking one of the officers in the chest. Other agents courageously drug their fallen comrade to safety and then took three suspects inside the room into custody without firing a shot.

The bullet that struck the agent was stopped by protective equipment and did not penetrate the body armor. The agent was transported to a local hospital where an evaluation was completed by medical personnel. The agent was later released. As per Shreveport Police Department policy, the officer’s name will not be released because of the nature of the duty assignment.

Authorities at the crime scene eventually took two other suspects in an adjoining room into custody as well and ultimately recovered three handguns, about six pounds of suspected marijuana, and over $10,000 in cash. The cash was discovered in a toilet as if the suspects were attempting to conceal it from law enforcement. The following suspects have been arrested in connection with this case and were booked into the Shreveport City Jail:
Monica Taylor, 33, of the 1100 block of Allen Avenue in Shreveport, charged with possession of a Schedule I narcotic with the intent to distribute, possession of a Schedule I narcotic and convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
