Austin Jeremy Holt, 23, was arrested Tuesday for improper supervision of a child for allowing his 4-year-old son to ride his battery-operated toy car on a highway.

Caddo Deputy Cpl. Martha Garrison was traveling on Shreveport-Blanchard Highway near Roy Road just after noon when she saw Holt walking behind his son who was driving the car in the northbound lane of traffic. The incident caused traffic to go into the opposing lane to avoid hitting the two.

Garrison and other deputies tried repeatedly to question Holt, but he was unresponsive and non-communicative. Finally, when asked why they were in the road, Holt replied that his son "wanted to ride this way."

The child was placed in the care of his mother. Holt was booked into Caddo Correctional Center.
