South Caddo DWIs spike over weekend

Eight people were arrested in south Caddo Parish over the weekend for driving while intoxicated. Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator said that's about double the number arrested by south-end patrol deputies on an average weekend.

Between Friday morning and midnight on Sunday, seven men and one woman, ages 18-57, were arrested by deputies and issued summons for DWI.

Prator said deputies are aggressively searching for drunk drivers and making arrests on patrol, in addition to special operations that target drivers who are under the influence.

"It's encouraging from a law enforcement perspective to see such an aggressive approach," Prator said. "The more drunk drivers we take off the road, the fewer fatalities we'll see."

Deputies said most of those arrested were headed home usually between midnight and 3 a.m. after drinking at a bar or lounge. Intoxilyzer results revealed that many of the drivers had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in their system when their vehicle was pulled over.

Those arrested were Lisa P. Jimes, 37; Kent McKay, 57; Clyde Holmes, 56; Jerry P. Nye, 37; Johnny W. Maiden, 48; Bob O'Neal, 47; Zackery J. Summage, 18; and Philip K. Young, 57.
