Woman arrested for making false reports

A Mooringsport woman was arrested on two counts of criminal mischief for filing false reports about the family of her daughter’s fiance’.

Lottie Coffman, 63, was issued two summons by Caddo sheriff’s deputies after she made separate reports claiming that her grandchildren were the victims of sexual and physical abuse at the hands of the fiance’s family. Detectives say after interviewing Coffman and the children, they determined the abuse never occurred.

Detectives said Coffman made up the stories because she did not like her daughter’s fiance’ and didn’t want them to marry.

Coffman was arrested by Detectives Jackie Winston and Jared Marshall. Detectives said many hours went into the investigation of the complaints and involved not only the Sheriff’s Office, but child advocate groups, and hospital personnel.

Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator said speaking up when you suspect a child has been victimized is necessary and extremely important, especially when the child can’t speak for themselves. “We take all of these complaints very seriously and investigate to the end,” Prator said. “In this case, the allegations were made up, and many people, including these children, were needlessly involved.”
