The Caddo Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash that occurred this morning on Hwy. 79 near the Relay Station, said Sheriff Steve Prator.
A convoy of 18 wheelers belonging to Frac Tech was traveling northbound when they began to slow down for an unrelated northbound vehicle that was making a turn.Deputies said the 18 wheeler in the rear of the pack was following too closely and clipped the 18 wheeler ahead of it. The vehicle in the rear then entered the southbound lane and hit an oncoming 18 wheeler belonging to Plains Marketing.
The driver in the Plains Marketing vehicle died in the accident. The driver of the Frac Tech vehicle was taken by ambulance to LSUHSC with serious injuries. No names have been released while the case is being investigated.
Hwy. 79 is expected to remain closed between Buncombe Road and Hwy. 80 for the next few hours.
The accident is being investigated by the Caddo Sheriff’s Traffic Safety Unit.
