The driver of an 18-wheeler that caused a fatal crash on Hwy. 79 on Tuesday has been cited by the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Larry D. Gatson II, 25, of Shreveport, was issued citations for reckless operation and following too closely. The citations were issued by traffic safety investigator Cpl. Mike Vaitkus.

Gatson’s vehicle was northbound on Hwy. 79 when he hit the back end of an 18-wheeler traveling in front of him then crossed over the center line and hit an oncoming, southbound 18-wheeler. The driver of the southbound vehicle, Jim Harville, 56, of Waskom, Texas, died in the crash.

Gatson was driving a truck for Frac Tech International Services at the time of the accident.
