A Keatchie man was arrested by Caddo sheriff’s deputies on Thursday for being impaired when he crashed his vehicle and caused a 4-year-old boy to be ejected from the car, said Sheriff Steve Prator.
The crash occurred July 3 on Hwy. 169 in Keithville. A citizen was flagged down by the 4 year old after Daniel Jackson lost control of his Chevy Cavalier and drove it off the highway and into the woods. Both Jackson and the child were ejected. There was no child safety seat in the vehicle. Jackson was transported to the LSUHSC with serious injuries, and the child was treated at the hospital for minor injuries and released.
Cpl. Ken Davis of the Caddo Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Unit obtained a warrant for Jackson’s arrest for vehicular negligent injury, driving under the influence with child endangerment, and child safety restraint violations.
Deputies found the 25-year-old Jackson on Thursday hiding in the bathroom of his house on Keatchie Marshall Road. He was taken to the Caddo Correctional Center where he was booked on the warrant. No bond has been set.
Citizens can learn more about child safety seats or have their child seat checked for proper installation by calling Sheriff’s Safety Town at 698-7233, Prator said.
