Search continues on Red River

The Caddo Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Unit is continuing its investigation this morning into whether a person was hit by a KCS train crossing over the Red River, said Sheriff Steve Prator.

Around 9:30 last night, the Shreveport Fire Department received two 911 calls, one from a citizen who saw someone in the river after reportedly being hit by the train downtown, and one from KCS personnel.

Shreveport and Bossier City fire departments and Caddo and Bossier parish sheriff’s offices dispatched boats to the river and searched for several hours Wednesday night but were unable to locate anyone.

Around 8 a.m. today, all four agencies returned to the river to continue the search. Shreveport Fire is being assisted by a Search and Rescue canine on the river, while Bossier City Fire is utilizing a Search and Rescue canine on the bank. Caddo and Bossier sheriff’s offices are using SONAR to locate any underwater objects.

Caddo Sheriff’s Lt. Michael Gray is leading an investigation into whether anyone was struck by the train on the bridge. This morning, Gray viewed a video from the train, which showed at least one figure on the bridge but did not definitively reveal what happened to the person. Despite early reports, authorities believe they are searching for only one person.
