18-wheeler accident sends one to hospital

Caddo sheriff’s deputies are on the scene of an 18-wheeler accident in north Caddo Parish that sent one man to the hospital, said Sheriff Steve Prator.

Around 8:30 a.m., a northbound P.A.M. Transport truck driver failed to yield while making a left turn from Hwy. 1 onto Hwy. 2. A southbound Dodge pick-up was struck, sending the pick-up’s driver, Steve McKenna Jr., to the hospital.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured. He’s been identified as Gary David Auch, 51, of Omaha, Arkansas. Auch was ticketed for failure to yield.

McKenna, 54, of Oil City, was transported to North Caddo Medical Center by North Caddo EMS.

Lt. Michael Gray, of the Caddo Sheriff’s Traffic Safety Unit, said the 18-wheeler’s fuel tank was ruptured in the crash, and an unknown amount of diesel spilled on the ground. The intersection at Hwy. 1 and Hwy. 2 is closed during clean up. One lane of Hwy. 1 is also closed.

The Caddo Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division, Traffic Safety Unit, and Hazardous Materials Unit are all on the scene, as well as Caddo Fire District #7 and the Department of Transportation.
