CPSO recovers body on Red River

Caddo deputies recovered the body of man from the Red River early this morning.

Cpl. Madison Cox of the Caddo Sheriff’s Marine Patrol located the body around 9:52 a.m. It was near the bank on the Shreveport side of the river across from Boom Town Casino.

The body has not been positively identified; however, the person was wearing a Sheriff’s Operation Safeguard (SOS) identification bracelet. The bracelets are provided by the Caddo Sheriff’s Office to persons with dementia or those who are prone to wander. The ID numbers on the bracelets correspond to personal information maintained by the Sheriff’s Office that helps locate the person’s family if they are reported missing. Deputies will provide that information to the Caddo Parish Coroner to assist with identification.

Deputies had been searching for a person who reportedly went into the river on February 6. Witnesses reported seeing someone in the water and thought the person had been hit by a passing train. A review of the train’s video showed a person on the trestle as the train approached but was not conclusive about whether they were struck by the train.

The Sheriff’s Traffic Safety Unit is continuing its investigation into the incident.
