Man arrested for stealing railroad property

Caddo Sheriff's deputies arrested a Georgia man on Sunday for theft of railroad property, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator.

Rodney Lubin, 46, of Columbus, Georgia, was booked into Caddo Correctional Center for theft and illegal carrying of weapons.

Sheriff's Cpl. Russell Hicks and Deputy Doug Smith were investigating a report of a suspicious vehicle registered to Lubin when they found stolen property in another of Lubin's vehicles and at a camper where he was temporarily living on Moore Road.

The stolen property included over 100 railroad spikes and 63 iron plates belonging to Union Pacific Railroad, as well as other scrap metal. Deputies said the railroad property was stolen from a construction site at Flournoy Lucas and Pines roads.

Lubin was arrested during a traffic stop after he spotted deputies at his camper and tried to flee the area. He had burglary tools in his possession at the time of his arrest.
