Caddo Sheriff’s inmate website offers new feature for crime victims

Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator announced today that crime victims can now use the Caddo Sheriff’s Office webpage to register to be notified of an inmate’s release.

The sheriff’s website, www.caddosheriff.org, already features photos and booking information for inmates currently housed at Caddo Correctional Center. A new feature will allow victims or other members of the public to click on a link below the inmate’s photograph to register with the Louisiana Automated Victim Notification System or LAVNS.

LAVNS is an on-line resource that allows the public to search for information regarding an offender's current custody and case status. You may register to be notified automatically by e-mail or telephone when an offender is released, transferred, or escapes from a parish facility or has a change in case status.

“We want to make the registration process as easy as possible for victims to be notified when an inmate’s status changes,” Prator said. “On our website, they can find immediate information about the offender, their charge and bond, and also receive instant information about the LAVNS program and its benefits.”

The Caddo Sheriff’s Office was the first local agency – and one of the first in the state - to provide internet access to inmate information when it went on-line with photos and booking information in 2007. CPSO was also the first to provide email notifications to those who requested to be notified when a sex offender moved into their neighborhood. The program, called OffenderWatch, is available by clicking on the sex offender registry button at www.caddosheriff.org.

People today live in a high-tech society, and it’s important for law enforcement to keep up,” Prator said. The Caddo Sheriff’s Office prides itself in being ahead of the curve by providing technological advances that improve services for our citizens.”
