CSO identifies man found in river
A deceased man found in the Red River over the weekend has been identified as 52-year-old Marvin Jones Jr.
The Caddo Sheriff's Office identified Jones through fingerprints on Saturday but has been unable to locate next of kin to make an official death notification. Detectives say he has connections to Baton Rouge, Arkansas, and Florida, but they have been unable to find a current address for Jones or his family. The Sheriff's Office is asking anyone who can provide information about Jones to contact Detective Jason Morgan at 681-0700.
Jones was pulled from the Red River on Saturday afternoon after his body was discovered by tugboat workers near the Port of Shreveport-Bossier. Detectives say foul play is not suspected, however, an official cause of death has not been released.
The Caddo Sheriff's Marine Patrol is still searching the Red for a female who also was reportedly spotted in the river on Saturday. Deputies had just left the scene after recovering Jones' body when they were dispatched to the same area again to search for a woman. The same tugboat workers who discovered Jones say they spotted a female with blonde hair in the water, but were unable to secure the body for deputies. A pink Nike woman's tennis shoe was recovered from the scene.
Deputies searched all day Sunday and returned to the river this morning to continue recovery efforts.
